Nature Rwanda is a legally registered conservation organization with legal personality and the functioning of national non-governmental organizations in Rwanda and has legal personality No 470/RGB/NGO/2019. Nature Rwanda’s vision is to build communities where human beings coexist with nature without compromising the well-being of future generations. This is achieved by contributing to the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems in a way that fosters a sustainable future and leads to social and economic transformation in communities while addressing issues that threaten the coexistence of humans and nature.
Nature Rwanda has established a vulture conservation program to save the population of African vultures that are on the brink of extinction. Under this program, in 2020 Nature Rwanda has recruited vulture guardians t to volunteer their time and efforts in monitoring vultures at their most utilized locations across the country, as well as raising awareness in their respective communities. Through the reports we are receiving from the field, cases of vultures that are in need of emergency care are increasing steadily. These are injured vultures due to different forms of persecution, chicks that have fallen from nests, orphaned young vultures, and vultures whose life is in critical condition due to poisoning. These cases have proven that there is a need for at least a mini rescue and rehab center to be able to save the lives of vultures.
In this regard, Nature Rwanda is working hard to establish a mini vultures’ rescue and rehab center, however, this is not something we can succeed in alone. We need support from different people who believe in the work of Nature Rwanda on vultures. We will be building everything from the ground up, so the funds raised will go towards the new facility and our first enclosure. The plan is to secure a piece of land and start construction by February 2022.
