What we do?
What we do?
Nature Rwanda envisions thriving communities living in harmony with nature by integrating community livelihoods with ecosystem and landscape restoration. Our approach begins with community engagement and environmental awareness, empowering people with the knowledge and motivation to adopt improved agricultural practices and sustainable use of natural resources. By promoting nature-based livelihoods, communities build secure and resilient lives while contributing to environmental restoration, creating a positive cycle where ecological balance is maintained and communities thrive.
Why nature can’t wait?
Rwanda faces a critical challenge of biodiversity loss and degradation of fragile ecosystems, threatening both the environment and community livelihoods. Unsustainable practices and the impacts of climate change exacerbate these challenges, making ecosystems and communities vulnerable. Urgent action is needed to restore ecosystems, strengthen resilience, and empower communities who depend on nature every day..
Protection of the Ecosystems is in Our Power
As Nature Rwanda, we make all efforts to Safeguard ecosystems and biodiversity in the way of ensuring a sustainable future for our children and grandchildren. We conserve the ecosystem because we depend on it every day, not because the ecosystem depends on us. Therefore, everyone in Rwanda must practice conservation in order to enhance our quality of life.safeguard
How We Achieve It?
Nature Rwanda’s impact is built on a foundation of strong community engagement, strategic partnerships, and evidence-based action. We mobilize a diverse network to achieve our conservation goals:
Community Engagement
We have successfully built a vibrant conservation movement by establishing 25 environmental clubs in schools and 10 eco-groups in churches, creating a dedicated network of 565 members. Capacity building programs are conducted to more than 200 individuals annually, while 30,000 people are reached through community campaigns per year.
Strategic Partnerships
As the BirdLife International partner in Rwanda, and through our involvement in networks such as the Alliance for Zero Extinction, ANAES, and the African CSOs Biodiversity Alliance, we connect with others who share our mission, strengthening our ability to share lessons and mobilize resources.
Our Strategic Priorities
Our work is guided by four strategic priorities, each with clear objectives and targets for 2026-2030, aimed at creating lasting positive change across Rwanda:
Conserve Threatened Species and Their Habitats
Restore and Protect Degraded Ecosystems and Landscapes
Promote Sustainable Livelihoods for People in Nature
Strengthen Policy Influence for Conservation and Restoration
