Kivu is one of the lakes of Rwanda and an Area of Zero Extinction which is known to host a high biodiversity, endemic and threatened species. However, some parts of this lake are threatened by soil erosion, land conversion, degradation and sedimentation as they are located in mountainous areas. In this sense, Nature Rwanda in partnership with Birdlife Under support of Afri100 TerraMatch are implementing project aims at engaging community in restoration of degraded areas for climate resilient in Lake Kivu/Rusizi river basin which will raise awareness on the application of appropriate techniques to stabilize soil and manage rainfall, and contribute to the area recovery and improved human livelihood.
